BCU Kayak and Canoe Coaching Qualifications
BCU/UKCC Level 1 Coach Course
This training and assessment course is the start of the coaching pathway and is suitable for all who are introducing people to all types of paddlesport. This 4 day practical and theoretical course includes the Foundation Safety and Rescue course as one of its elements.
Students of this course must be registered with the BCU and have the appropriate pre-requisites.
BCU/UKCC Level 2 Coach Training
The more experienced coach will benefit from this 4 day training course that looks at developing skills to coach groups of paddlers over a series of progressive sessions and simple journeys.
BCU/UKCC level 2 Coach Assessment
This is one day assessment looks at coaching in a both Kayak and Canoe and also assesses a simple journey. The candidates portfolio must be complete before presenting themselves for assessment and their mentor must have agreed they are ready to progress to the assessment.
BCU 'old style' Level 3 White Water Kayak assessment
This 2 day assessment assesses the coach on grade 2 water, looking at their leadership and primarily their coaching of students on simple moving water. Candidates will have all their pre-requisites in place before presenting themselves for assessment.
BCU 'old style' Level 3 Surf Kayak assessment
This 2 day assessment assesses the coach on moderate waves, looking at their Beach Management, Leadership and primarily their coaching of students on 1-3ft waves. Candidates will have all their pre-requisites in place before presenting themselves for assessment.
