Advanced Sea Kayak Skills Courses
Advanced Sea Kayak Skills
Why Advanced?
You've done a bit of moderate water sea kayaking, including force 4 winds and some waves and you liked it!
Now you want some more.
You want to experience bigger, more playful water and have the confidence and skills to be able to drive your boat like you stole it.
Our aim is coaching you to develop independence in advanced paddling environments, considering planning, decision making, group and team management and safety / rescue skills.
We will take you to learn, practice and develop your skills in places unique to our magnificent coastline here in North Wales. This might include visiting Anglesey or the Lleyn Peninsula.
As with all our courses, this will also have a small Coach to student ratio, allowing our highly experienced coaches to develop your advanced sea kayak skills.
This course doesn't have a set syllabus or set content as we tailor the content to develop you. It might include sea kayak handling, rescue skills, tides and planning, surfing, tide races or open crossings. The exact venues will depend on the weather conditions and your aspirations.
You can also undertake a British Canoeing Personal Performance Advanced Sea Kayak Award during this course if you choose. Further information about these awards can be found here.
2020 Course Dates:
17-21st August
22-23rd August
5-6th September
17-18 October
31 October-1 November
Alternatively we can arrange course dates to suit you (minimum group booking of 2 paddlers)
£200 per person for 2 days

The 'Tide Race Chase' Sea Kayak Course
Let's get together and Chase the Race.
This advanced sea kayaking course has a focus on finding and chasing the fast moving tidal waters of North Wales.
Come and develop new skills or test your existing ones against the potential paddling challenges as we explore the tide races, overfalls and standing waves of this outstanding area.
Locations could include North and South Stack, Penryhn Mawr and maybe the Swellies or Rhoscolyn Sound & the Beacon.
As with all of our courses, we don't just focus on paddle waggling skills, we look at the other very important aspects of your development including building confidence, positioning, tactics and psychological strategies to enhance your performance in these high octane environments.
We’ll also help you develop independence in the tide races by considering effective planning, pro-active decision making, group-think and safety / rescue skills.
The exciting tide races of the North Wales coastline increase the opportunities for planning and playing, and preparing you for paddling anywhere you choose.
Course dates are selected with varied tide race conditions in mind, we then incorporate the factor of wind, to choose suitable venues. Regardless of weather, a 'day at the races' is always available.
To get the most from this course, you should be happy being challenged, be comfortable in wanting to learn about fast water and have a range of paddling techniques and experience to draw upon.
Our small coach to student ratio allows for your enhanced development.
You can also undertake a British Canoeing Personal Performance Advanced Sea Kayak Award during this course if you choose. Further information about this course can be found here.
