Sheltered Water Coach
This is the first step to working as a Stand Up Paddle Coach. This two day course provides training in the 'What and Where' to coach SUP in the Sheltered Water environment. This builds on the coaching skills learnt during the Coach Core training (which must be completed as a pre-requisite or have gained Recognised Prior Learning) and applies them tactically and technically. Candidates are expected to be able to confidently perform the manoeuvres listed below before enrolling on the course. Forward Paddling Simple Sweep Turning Step-Back Turns Cross Deck strokes Rescues and towing If you are not sure if you are at standard then please contact us to discuss. The course is both dry and wet in content and is a practical and theoretical course. In order to register for the courses you will need to be a member of British Canoeing, have attended the Core or have RPL, be registered to attend the Discipline Specific Training. It is a pre-requisite before your future assessment that you have built up your experience, completed the Assessment Discussion Task, completed the E-Learning and completed the Assessment Check-In. You must bring your own board, paddle and leash and any equipment you use for teaching and rescues if you have it. If you do not have your own, let us know in advance and we can arrange a hire set for you. |

Open Water Coach
This is the progression to working as an Open Water Stand Up Paddle Coach. This two day course provides training in the 'What and Where' to coach SUP in the Open Water environment. This builds on the coaching skills learnt during the Coach Core training (which must be completed as a pre-requisite or have gained Recognised Prior Learning) and applies them tactically and technically to Open Water. Candidates are expected to be able to confidently perform the manoeuvres listed below before enrolling on the course. Forward Paddling Simple Sweep Turning Step-Back Turns Cross Deck strokes Rescues and towing Be personally comfortable paddling in Force 3-4 winds. If you are not sure if you are at standard then please contact us to discuss. The course is both dry and wet in content and is a practical and theoretical course. SUP - Discipline Support Module
The supporting module for SUP. Can be used by paddlers or coaches alike to discover a little more about the discipline of SUP. Existing British Canoeing Coaches can use it to enable them to provide introductions to SUP during their coaching sessions, with enough knowledge of basic technique, basic rescues and background knowledge to provide safe, enjoyable, taster sessions alongside their other paddlesport sessions. |
