UK Sea Kayak Trips and Expeditions 2021
The Wild West
Sea Kayak Wales' West coast from St David's to Holyhead.
This 12 day self contained, expedition will navigate along the Celtic Coastline using the waters of the Irish Sea, at the tail end of the Gulf Stream, much like the Jellyfish and Leatherback Turtles. We will make our passage up the Irish Sea from the smallest and most westerly city in the UK, St. Davids, to the Port town of Holyhead on Anglesey; gateway to another Celtic gem, Ireland .
We will feel the power of the swell as we pass imposing headlands, take in the view of the Preseli's, pass the University City of Aberystwyth, visit the infrequently paddled Mid Wales coastline as we pass Idris's Chair and further north we spy King Edward's castle at Harlech. Crossing the bay to round the Lleyn Peninsula as we venture toward Caernarfon, we pass Porthmadog. After negotiating the Menai Bar guarding the Southern end of the Menai Straits, we continue up the West coast of Anglesey negotiating four tide races on the home straight, providing a suitable and inescapable finale.
Living out of the kayaks, camping and bivvying along the way, we will pack tents and some food for the first few days along with any creature comforts you wish to bring along and head North.
There will be opportunity to restock supplies along the way and we have some flex days in the program just in case the weather turns.
If the weather turns, we might book into a Hostel for an odd night along the way.
As with any expedition, flexibility will be the key.
Some days will have one tidal window to utilise, other days will have potentially two tidal slots that we can use to aid our journey north if the weather is suitable.
Whats included:
Meet and greet in St Davids, where we can leave your vehicles at a campsite.
Transport back to St Davids on the 31 July
Guiding
Maps and Charts of the journey
If you require a Sea Kayak for this expedition, you can hire one form us for the duration.
